My BF of three years and I are compatible in many ways. But we are on the verge of breaking up because I desperately want to have children and he adamantly refuses to have children. Now I am struggling because we are right for each other in so many ways, but I have always dreamed of having children and I just wonder if maybe he will change his mind about children if we get married and he sees that children are the next logical step so that we feel fulfilled.

I’d put the possibility of your BF changing his mind about children “if you get married” in the same category as . . . “if my aunt grows a pair,” she’ll be my uncle.
In other words, if you place high value on having children & your BF is adamantly opposed to that idea, it’s time to say buh-bye & move on.

Yes, if two people disagree on whether to have or not to have the children then that marriage is not going to be succesful.

it is true that a boy and girl have to agree about weather they want to have kikds - but nothing will chase a boy away faster than bring up the kids question early in dating
kids are the greatest part of life. any man who doesn't want them would certainly be wrong for me. so i agree, if he doesn't want kids, drop him!
if one person wants children and the other does not, that definitely is a deal breaker - having a family is too central of an issue to trifle with - and, no a person should not marry someone thinking that he will change his mind about something so central as having children
I HAVE BEEN READING THE ORIGINAL POST AND RODGER'S RESPONSE AND ALL THE COMMENTS - I UNDERSTOOD THE POSTER'S QUESTION AND RODGER'S RESPONSE IS FINE BUT I FEEL THIS TONE IN THE COMMENTS OF BEING AGAINST MEN SO I FEEL A NEED TO SAY THAT THERE ARE MANY OF US MEN WHO VERY MUCH WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN - IN FACT I AM FINDING MORE AND MORE WOMEN ARE THE ONOES WHO DO NOT WANT CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY VALUE THEIR CAREERS SO HIGHLY AND FEEL LIKE CHILDREN WILL BE ENCUMBERANCES
