Costumes as a Turn-on

Dear Rodger:

I am a 28-year-old gay man who is dating a 42-year-old gay man. We have been dating for only two months but I think he could be the man I want to spend the rest of my life with for various reasons.

The one reason why I am not sure about him is that he keeps asking me to dress up in a costume when we have sex. Well, not exactly a costume but a policeman’s hat and billy club. I keep laughing this off when he asks me because I have never done anything like this. In the back of my mind I think he sees me as some little boy toy because of our age difference and wants to dress me up like some little baby doll.

Reluctant Policeman

Dear Reluctant Policeman ~

I was very tempted to begin this letter with the greeting “Dear Overthinker.”

That is, while no one should ever agree to perform a sex act that he or she isn’t comfortable performing, I can’t see the harm in putting on a police officer’s hat & holding onto a billy club. (I’ll admit, though, that my answer may be influenced by the fact that my last anniversary gift to Tom was a fireman’s hat—
love ya, Tombo!)

As for your fears that your BF is trying to turn you into a boy toy, if all you have to go on is this one request, I’ll put on my judge’s robe & slam down my gavel as I rule: “Insufficient evidence. Case dismissed.”

I don't know what Gay World this man is living in. A man who is 28 years old is way too old to be in the category of a "boy toy" which ended when a guy turns 20.

so why have you not posted a photo of Tom in his fireman's hat on your website????

i want to complement you on how gentle you were with this writer - you could have attacked him for being so egotistical thinking he is a boy toy even though he is in his late 20s but rather you made your point kindly without attacking him or his ego - nicely done

Costuming can be a great turn-on, that's for sure. My BF and I enjoy it a lot. I have found though that men seem to like women to dress up in costumes much more than they are willing to do the same. Maybe this letter writer would feel more comfortable about the roles if he asked his older BF to dress up too. Maybe Tom would be willing to allow him to borrow his fireman's hat!

no offense but having a guy ask you to wear a police hat is pretty darned vanilla - once i had a guy insist that i dress entirely in leather and chains but with my ass and crotch hanging out - no i didnt do it

my comment is prompted by the one from Elaine saying that straight men like women to wear costumes but that they don't like to wear costumes themselves - let me assure you, sweetheart, that you are majorly mistaken - police uniforms aren't a turn-on just for gay men but for straight ones too
